Oakhurst Neighborhood and homes for sale in Oakhurst

Oakhurst is located in the southwest section of the City of Decatur. It has a small town atmosphere and yet is very close to downtown Decatur and downtown Atlanta. The community offers parks, recreation facilities, shops, bars and restaurants. There are several events that take place in the neighborhood ….Jazz nights, neighborhood picnics, blues festival and arts festival.

The houses in Oakhurst are mostly 1920 style bungalows with wonderful front porches and also some new construction homes in the area.  There are also a few townhome complexes that have been built in the last few years.  An example of homes and prices in the area …a new construction 5 bedroom/4 bath home is priced at $739,900. It is a 2 story home with double porches, hardwood floors, fireplace, extensive moldings, high ceilings, large kitchen with granite, beautiful master suite and across from a park. Another example is a 2 bedroom/2 bath 1920’s craftsman bungalow with large front porch, 3 fireplaces, renovated baths, large kitchen on large lot for $315,000. Then there is a fixer upper in the neighborhood for sale for $180,000…it needs extensive renovations.  

Oakhurst is a wonderful neighborhood and a wonderful place to live!

There are quite a few new homes for sale in the city of Decatur ranging in price from $2,380,000 to $549,900 depending on the neighborhood and the size of the home and lot.  The most expensive house is on Lamont Drive and feautures 6 bedrooms, 5 baths and 1 half bath. It features extensive moldings, columns, 2 master suites, large kitchen with state of the art appliances and a full finished basement.

The house for $549,900 is a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath on Third Avenue in Oakhurst. It has hardwood floors, fireplace in the living room, double porches, 2 car garage and deck. Oakhurst is a wonderful neighborhood with great schools, parks, restaurants and close to downtown Atlanta and downtown Decatur.

Decatur has a new development of townhomes designed in a classic Brownstone style named Brownstones at Decatur. The  gated community will feature 84 townhomes with luxury amenities including oak hardwood floors, Viking appliances,  granite countertops, jetted master tubs and will be built as an “Earthcraft” home. The community will also feature a pool and cabana area for neighbors to gather. This is a wonderful location within walking distance to all the shops, parks, schools and restaurants Decatur has to offer. Prices start in the high 400’s.

Decatur Garden Tour

Decatur, Georgia invites garden enthusiasts to harvest ideas and inspiration during its 2007 Garden Tour. The Decatur Preservation Alliance (DPA) and Oakhurst Community Garden Project (OCGP) are in partnership to host the annual event, which takes place Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30, 2007.

A variety of gardens is featured, including eight private gardens throughout Decatur, and six public or semi-public gardens. A private garden highlight is the bonsai garden of award-winning expert Cozart Smith.

Public and semi-public gardens include internationally-recognized garden designer Ryan Gainey’s garden, the Oakhurst Community Garden, Woodlands Garden, Scott Community Garden, Glenn Lake Nature Preserve, and the 54-acre Decatur Cemetery.

Programming for adults and children is featured throughout the weekend, including native plant walks, cooking demonstrations, storytelling, outdoor painting and more. A schedule of events is included below. Tickets will also include a designated bike route.
Woodlands’ Master gardener Ruby Bock, who leads the garden selection committee, says that this autumn garden tour “can give people who might have a spring-focused garden a good opportunity to see the great blooms of the fall, which include asters, goldenrod, Japanese anemone and other, later-blooming botanicals.”
