There are 12 new listings in the city of Decatur this week. Prices range from $650,000(for a beautifully renovated home in Winnona Park) to 259,000(for a smaller home on Ridley Circle). There are also some fairly new houses(constructed in the last 4 years) on the market in Oakhurst and within walking distance to downtown Decatur….and a classic craftsman style bungalow in Oakhurst on Cambridge. The city of Decatur has many different style homes to choose from and many wonderful neighborhoods each with it’s own unique style. 

There were 6 new listings in the Druid Hills neighborhood over the last 7 days  between the price range of $1,225,000- $489,900.   The one priced at $1,225,000 is a house that has been expanded and renovated. There is also one for $1,100,000 that is a classic Druid Hills home with much charm and character and has also been renovated. It sits on a large lot and has an additional carriage house that can be an office or a very nice “playhouse” for children. One of the houses that was listed was “under contract” within 24 hours…  Real estate in Druid Hills can move very quickly if in the right location and priced accurately.

I was looking at lofts these past few weeks and I saw a very unique complex which is very, affordable and quite large for the price of 249,500. They are called Urban Loft Townhomes and are located on Maynard Terrace.. very convenient to downtown Atlanta, Decatur and the new business district of Kirkwood. The plan for the community is a total of 48 loft/townhomes…each with 3 levels of living space and a 2 car garage. They are very spacious with large open areas and light filled rooms. A great find!

Always an interesting place to be… The Little Five Points Halloween festival complete with ghosts and goblins…always a little crazy, kooky and above all… fun!  The festival this year takes place on Octboer 19th(6pm-10pm) and October 20th(12n-10pm). There will be live music both days and on Saturday there will be children’s activites and a costume contest at 4:30pm in Findley Plaza. Dont miss the parade at 5pm….a very spooky and different experience.

First Thursdays is a new event taking place in Emory Village/Druid Hills on the first Thursday of every month. It is designed to bring together neighbors, friends and visitors for an evening of fun and also to bring attention to the businesses in the village.  There will be a variety of activities for children and adults from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m. 

Activities will include special discounts, promotions, and samples as well as Trivia night,  community groups, booths and even live music. This event is sponsored by the Alliance to Improve Emory Village with support from the Clifton Community Partnership.

Emory Village is located at the intersection of North Decatur Rd. and Oxford Rd. Additional parking will be available at the B. Jones and Fishburne parking decks at Emory University.

There is a new neighborhood park in Druid Hills at the corner of Clifton Road and Oxford Road. The park is named Burbanck Park in honor of The Burbanck’s that lived in the house on the property. Emory University purchased the 1.2 acre property in 2006 and the park was dedicated on Earth Day 2007. Emory plans to have the now standing non-historic home removed and the land will be restored to its natural settting. The park will provide a recreational area for the community and will be a nice buffer for the residences of Druid Hills and the commercial district of Emory Village.
